What are CEREC Same-Day Dental Crowns?

CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, and CEREC same-day dental crowns are similar to traditional dental crowns in the sense that they serve the same purpose – to protect severely decayed or damaged teeth from further harm. However, whereas the process for receiving a traditional crown normally took multiple appointments, a CEREC crown can be planned, created, and placed all within a single appointment with the help of computer-aided design and manufacturing.
The Process of Getting a CEREC Same-Day Dental Crown

During your appointment, Dr. Crowley-Le will examine your smile before taking digital impressions of your whole mouth and the tooth that’s in need of a crown. While traditional restorations require the use of gooey impression material, CEREC impressions are taken entirely digitally, ensuring patient comfort in addition to precision. The impressions are transferred to a computer, and Dr. Crowley-Le can manipulate them to create a model, which is then sent over to the CEREC machine to be milled in about half an hour. From there, it’s just a matter of polishing and perfecting the crown before cementing it in place!
The Benefits of CEREC Crowns vs. Traditional Crowns

The most obvious advantage that CEREC crowns hold over their traditional counterparts is the speed at which they can be placed – it’s always going to be preferable to wrap up dental treatment in one visit versus multiple. However, this doesn’t mean that CEREC crowns sacrifice anything in terms of quality; these restorations are known for their durability and longevity. These crowns are also crafted from a high-quality ceramic material that mimics the natural appearance of teeth, meaning they’ll blend in seamlessly with the rest of your smile once they’ve been carefully and precisely placed.
